Short-Term Insurance vs. Obamacare Plans

If you missed the deadline to enroll in health insurance during Open Enrollment, you can still get a Short-Term policy.  At JS Downey Insurance, we can help you get covered immediately at a lower cost, to help you plan ahead in the case of any unexpected medical expenses.

Short term health insurance in California provides a flexible timetable in case you are transitioning between plans, a college grad coming off your parent’s health plan, need something affordable and/or waiting for the next qualifying period to enroll in Obamacare or Medicare.

Short-term policies can run from 1 to 11 months, they're often more affordable than the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and as with regular policies, the higher the deductible you purchase, the lower the premium costs to you.

Eating well and exercising is great protection for your health -- and short-term policies can offer help for the unexpected.

These types of plans typically do not cover preexisting medical conditions.  In general, short-term health insurance policies exclude coverage for conditions that have been diagnosed or treated within the previous 2 to 5 years.  If you have an existing medical condition, you may want to research whether you can extend your current insurance.  Employer-sponsored insurance may be extended under a government-regulated option commonly referred to as COBRA,

The application process for short-term health insurance is usually simpler than renewable health insurance.  Short-term plans are designed to protect against unforeseen accidents or illnesses, rather than to provide comprehensive coverage, and therefore, typically do not include coverage for preventive care, physicals, immunizations, dental or vision care.

Short-term insurance doesn't have the same minimum coverage requirements as the Affordable Care Act, so you can get the amount of coverage that you want and need.  There is also greater flexibility with this protection, making it more user-friendly and an ideal temporary solution.
