What is Senior / Medicare Insurance?

Medicare is a federally-funded health insurance program for people age 65 and older, some younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).

You can learn important eligibility details about Medicare Parts A and B, Part D (drug coverage), along with Medicare Advantage and Supplement plans. We can help you understand the differences and find what plan is best for your medical and financial situation(s).

When Can I Enroll?

You can enroll in Medicare Parts A, B, C and D during the Initial Enrollment Period. This includes:

  • The 3 months before you turn 65

  • The month of your 65th birthday

  • The 3 months after your 65th birthday

Your coverage will start no sooner than your birthday month.

If you miss your Initial Enrollment Period, you can also enroll during Special Enrollment, General Enrollment, and Open Enrollment (Annual Election) periods. Open Enrollment runs each year from October 15th to December 7th. We'll be happy to explain when you can enroll based on your own circumstances.

How Do I Enroll?

Enrolling in Medicare is easy. We can help you compare plans, make sure your Prescription Drugs are covered, and help you save money (some plans even have $0 dollar copays).

J.S. Downey Insurance Service specializes in helping seniors with Medicare Supplements, Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans (MAPD's), and PART D. We offer a wide variety of carriers to choose from - so you can find the perfect fit for your own unique situation.

Important To Know

Medicare Supplement Plan F (sold by private insurance companies) is a type of Medicare Supplement (or "Medigap") Insurance plan. It helps to cover more than traditional Medicare. This plan will not be allowed to be sold to newly eligible Medicare recipients after January 1st, 2020.

As always, please check with Marilyn to learn more about your options for 2020. Planning ahead and plan selection are important and could help lower your out of pocket costs. Please also consult directly.

Let us know if you have any questions. If you do nothing, normally, if you already have coverage, it will automatically renew, even if it's not your most cost effective option based on your current health and prescription needs.
